Chair from the Second Empire when ladies wore a hooped petticoat to give volume to their dresses. It was then difficult for them to sit. Hence this shape of chair with the rear uprights spaced from the seat. Everything is original except the upholstery. In black-stained beech wood. The Musée du Vieux Toulouse has a caned model.
