Emile VERNON Blois, 1872 – Blois, 1920 Oil on canvas 44 x 61 cm (57 x 74 cm with the frame) Signed lower right “Emile Vernon” Very beautiful 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood with laurel decoration Originally from Blois, Emile Vernon first studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Tours (First prize in drawing in 1888) before going to Paris where he was a student of William Bouguereau. Emile Vernon painted portraits of women and landscapes in a style typical of an entire era, the “Belle-Epoque” (“Spring”, “The Flower Garden”, “A Summer Rose”).
