"Clément Gontier Flower Garden 19th Century"
19th century oil on canvas in medallion format signed by the artist Clément Gontier. The scene with a nest of turtledoves as a central element represents a natural floral composition in a garden. The flora of roses, poppies, bindweed and wild roses integrates a fauna of butterflies and ladybugs. A decorative park element made of stone statues representing cupids enriches the scene. Biography: Clément Gontier (1876-1918), is a painter from the Tarn, born in Lavaur, a town located between Albi and Toulouse, he comes from a modest background! He went to study at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse then in Paris where he was a student of Jean Paul Laurens. In 1901, he won the second Grand Prix de Rome.
