Kabyle Ritual Circumcision Knife
This "weapon" is rare, since it is a Kabyle ritual knife intended for circumcision. The decoration leaves no doubt about its origin, it is the type of handle with chiseled brass decoration that is found on traditional flissas
BLADE: it is double-edged, with a lenticular section. It features the chiseled representation of opposing crescents, and 3 circular brass pellets on each side.
These three pellets and the 3 double crescents refer to the 3 principles: Al-Islam (practice), Al-Iman (Faith), and Al-Ihsan (benevolence) Blade length = 13.8 cm, width near the handle = 2.6 cm, thickness near the handle 3 mm
HANDLE: it is covered with a sheet of brass chiseled with geometric patterns, and ends with a sort of rounded triangle, called "peacock tail" (the peacock in Islam is a symbol of the universe, or the moon)
This knife was collected in the 1900s, it comes from the family of a missionary. It will complete for a modest price a collection of weapons related to the Kabyle tradition
