Object description :

"Large Biscuit Porcelain, Allegory Of Falconet Sculpture - Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze"
Large biscuit porcelain statue representing an allegory of the arts of sculpture: the sculptor who has just put down his chisel and hammer is in admiration in front of his work (the Bather by Falconet), which seems alive with putti flying around. This important piece rests on a base in gilded bronze with fine gold, in the Louis XVI style which increases its strong decorative effect. Louis XVI style, late 19th century period, apocryphal signature of Sèvres for the Samson factory. Our reissue is characteristic of the taste of the 18th century reinterpreted in the 19th century; here the Samson factory created this group starting from the Bather by Falconet, adding the putti and the sculptor, creating a strong decorative effect. The "Manufacture of Porcelain, Earthenware and Terracotta" of the Samson family (4 generations) is the finest example, in the field of fire arts, of the interest shown in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century in styles of the past, the 18th century as well as the Middle Ages or the Renaissance, and for all exoticisms, Spain as well as Saxony or China. With a very rich, varied and excellent quality production, the Samsons were geniuses of imitation and the best reproducers of old pieces in terms of ceramic art. The factory was awarded numerous medals in the universal exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century, giving it an international reputation, particularly among museums. If the factory was seen in the 19th century as an excellent factory of perfect copies, the perfection of its productions and the reputation it acquired make it today a sought-after production by amateurs, an equivalent of Sormani in the world of ceramics. It is in large format, very furnishing and very decorative. Ideal to complete an 18th century decoration; these decorative objects are typical of this period, to be placed on a chest of drawers or fireplace. It is a piece decorated from all angles, intended to be seen from all sides in the center of a table for example or with its back to a mirror. It is in very good condition, some minor accidents (2 missing fingers, a small chip on the drapery of the toga: very discreet) Height: 47cm Width of the base 25.5 by 20.5cm
