"French School, 18th Century, Portrait Of An Aristocratic Officer In Armor, Regency Period"
French School, early 18th century, circa 1730, portrait of an officer from the reign of Louis XIV. He wears a handsome powdered curly wig and rich armor of blackened and gilded steel, with a fur-lined cape: he is a high-ranking officer. Oil on rectangular canvas, it is presented in a very ornate late 19th-century frame of wood and gilt stucco. Superb frame and superb matte and burnished gilding. Spectacular. Excellent overall condition, on its original canvas, painting cleaned. Note: the photos of the painting were taken in natural daylight. The last photo, showing it in context with the chest of drawers, was taken in electric light in the evening. Frame: 73.5 x 85 cm Canvas: 53 x 69 cm
