"Ancient Painting Portrait Of A Magistrate Late 17th Early 18th Century"
Oil on canvas, size 88 x 73 cm, frame 102 x 86 cm. Portrait of a magistrate. He is depicted half-length while sitting at a table, his right hand holding a quill pen. A barred window and law books are visible in the upper left corner. The man wears a dark suit and a wide white collar, in keeping with 17th-century fashion. It is set in a gold and green Salvator Rosa frame, dating to a later period than the painting, but very beautiful and well-executed in pure gold.
Italian school, dating from the late 17th to early 18th century.
The painting has a relining; no significant pictorial restorations are evident under Wood's lamp.
A certificate of authenticity is issued.
