Aubusson Tapestry, Verdure With Parrot, 18th Century

- Wool and silk tapestry woven in an Aubusson workshop in the 18th century.

This old weaving offers us an open window onto lush nature. The landscape is divided into several planes that follow one another harmoniously. The foreground is punctuated by three large trees that grow to the full height. At their foot, a row of carefully aligned plants, contrasting with the natural disorder of the vegetation. We can see a parrot, perched on a branch, who, like us, contemplates the scene. The second plane is decorated with various trees and is crossed by a calm expanse of water. Finally, in the background, a relief stands out, delicately treated in transparency to perfect the effect of depth. As a frame, this tapestry is enriched with a foliage border, punctuated with flowers.

- In contrast to the warm colors of the earthy and woody materials, the colors of this weaving today offer pleasant shades of blue/green in which the eye is lost with delight; water and vegetation merge.

- Good state of conservation (restoration indicated on the Bolduc by the Chevalier workshops in 2003), reweavings are to be noted (see photos), doubled, velcro fastening system. Ready to be installed.
