Hand-painted antique porcelain figurines depict a couple harvesting grapes. The figurines represent a classic pastoral scene. A pair of harvesters in simple folk attire has paused for a break while working. The man carries a basket of grapes on a stick in one hand and another basket in his other hand. The girl also holds a basket of grapes on her arm. The images are executed in the Rococo style, and the base is decorated with traditional rocaille ornamentation. Finely hand-painted with skillful detailing, the pair exemplifies the highest level of craftsmanship.
The mark on the base is partially erased; all that can be discerned is the inscription "Made in France." Considering the quality of the figures, the design, and the color scheme, and based on our experience, we assume that these are high-quality copies made in the style of Sèvres in the mid-19th century.
Sèvres and other porcelain manufactories in France are the cradles of European porcelain. They represent the largest centers of handmade porcelain production, which for many years have influenced the development of porcelain in Europe. French porcelain retains its value for collectors even today. Depictions of rural scenes are among the most sought-after series by collectors, designed as decorative table pieces. The sculptural images of rural life, especially the numerous child gardeners and vineyard workers, reflect the return to nature advocated by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The craftsmen of French manufactories have excelled in combining beauty and perfection, making these works of art appealing to future generations.
