A Barafatan-style (or barafat, barfatan) glass and Bohemian opaline ewer, with enamelled decoration and bright gold gilding. The faceted body features layers of turquoise-blue and milky-white opalescent enamels, cut with a grinding wheel to form windows and ogival recesses revealing the translucent crystal. The crystal is adorned with foliage motifs, leafy volutes and gold-painted latticework.The attached, sinuous handle is made of translucent crystal. The upper section comprises a spout and a hinged lid with a clamshell closure, crafted from silver chiselled with relief motifs of foliage and rocaille scrollwork, surmounted by a leaf-shaped thumb rest.
