Biedermeier Roll- Top Desk, Cherry Veneer, Ink, Brass, South Germany Circa 1820
High quality South German cylinder or rolling top writing desk or writing desk circa 1820.
Very thick sawn cherry veneer on softwood and solid cherry. Ebonized decorative bands and elements. At the top, a perimeter railing with ebonized bars. Large ink painting in the center of the flap and original painting around the fittings and edges. Below, two drawers with beautiful original brass fittings depicting finely worked faces. In the lower drawer is a large double-locking lock for both drawers. Pull-out writing tablet covered in black genuine leather (added later). Restored, hand-polished with shellac.
