France circa 1950: "Exceptional wickerwork chicken basket", woven wicker 62 X 64 X 64 cm. In its discovery condition, deserves a little cleaning, but very good condition. Folk art lovers will understand that I could be interested in such an object: the quality of the wickerwork with a wavy pattern around the edge, the ingenuity of the design with its slightly asymmetrical handles so as not to have to spread your arms too far to carry it, the small ring taken from the top of the basket allowing the lid to be hung rather than placed on the ground and the elegance of its shape make it a superb decorative object. I once knew farmers coming to sell their chickens at the market, their legs tied and grouped four or five in these baskets, but they were not always so luxurious!
