Large oil on canvas measuring 60cm x 92cm plus gilded frame 80cm X112 cm representing a shepherd and his sheep in a Provencal plain signed lower right J.TOGNETTI After passing through the Beaux-Arts in Marseille, Jean Tognetti, born in 1910, was hired by a company that built sets for the city's theaters. During the war, he frequented a group of committed artists from the Vieux-Port district, including Louis Toncini, Antoine Serra and Pierre Ambrogiani. In 1945, he was hired at the set design workshop of the Marseille Opera and in 1962 became its head decorator until his retirement in 1975.
