Very pretty painting of Venice Oil on wood (slightly warped) measuring 34cm x 55cm plus quality frame 58cm x 79cm signed lower left ZIEM original copper plaque titled "Venice, San Giorgio, Maggiore" Félix ZIEM was born in Beaune in 1821 Very gifted artist, already at 18 he gave lessons in watercolors and oils Settled for a while in Marseille he became very close to MonticelliHe settled in Martigues where he had his studio built in the shape of a Mosque (now disappeared). A traveling painter, he explored the whole of Europe and made numerous trips to Italy, and more particularly to Venice, which he made his specialty. We also know of some Orientalist paintings, a few Barbizon paintings and some still lifes and portraits. A museum in Martigues is dedicated to him. He received orders from the main leaders of the countries already mentioned. His works are included in the largest international collections and in the greatest museums.
