Raymond Thibésart was born on May 2, 1874 into a wealthy family in Bar-sur-Aube. Shortly after, his parents settled in Enghien, in the near suburbs of Paris. He subsequently studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Julian in Paris. His teachers introduced him to the artistic movement of Symbolism which influenced his first works.
In 1897, he became a member, then a gold medalist, of the Society of French Artists. He regularly exhibits at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. In 1902, he followed his friend Emile Boggio and moved to Vaux sur Seine, they then traveled together to Italy. From that moment on, Thibésart regularly practiced the “Post-Impressionist” style. He frequently travels to Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Corsica to capture the beauty of the landscapes. Driven by great passion, the painter creates numerous pastels on the spot, capturing moments and light. Thibésart devoted seventy years of his life to painting; and died in 1968 at the age of 94.
