Powerful terracotta portrait by the well-referenced and documented sculptor PF Berthoud (1870/1939). He is the author among many other things of a famous bust of Sarah Bernhart. Iĺ is the descendant of the famous 18th century watchmaker and this original terracotta comes from the family. Old assembly with cartridge on the board. An inscription on the back of the head identifies the model. The Indian ink inscription is in the hand of the sculptor. “To Mr Thillaux, memory of great friendship, Paul François Berthoud 1898”. Truly a strong work and a striking portrait of high quality. Dimensions of the support board: 40cm by 30cm. the face: approximately 28 cm by 22 cm.
