DOUBLE PORTE D'ENTREE - EPOQUE REGENCE - CHENE DE QUALITE EXCEPTIONNELLE

Beautiful and very solid Regency period door with 2 oak leaves from a Burgundian character house from the late 16th - early 17th century.
Having suffered very little, this traditionally made set was undoubtedly made by a master carpenter who knew his stuff.
High density stacked oak from powerful blocks with marbled veining (pedunculate or sessile oak)
Section of parts made to resist time
Machining 50 mm raw wood gives a final thickness of 35 mm
All the moldings are elegy (i.e. carved from the mass of wood)
The symmetrical molding from one leaf to another was done freehand, the details from one leaf to another are different.
The installation of a chair rail on the crosspiece under lock, apart from its aesthetic character, further reinforces the rigidity of the whole
Unusual parquetry paneling for low panels.

This double door awaits intelligent restoration.
Careful stripping of the paint is necessary to highlight the assemblies done with great care. The paint, if it is more than unsightly, has protected the grain of the oak of this door leading to the outside from the assaults of the rain and the misdeeds of the moon.

Our fellow carpenter estimates a restoration cost of around €2,000 to €2,500.
An identical door, made new using the same wood and the same principles, would cost between €10,000 and €12,000.
