Erotic Chinese Album – “shunga” Type, Accordion – 20th Century - Curiosa

Chinese album-book containing eight erotic prints enhanced with colors (watercolors) mounted on cardboard.
$The dishes are covered with fabric with floral decorations and characters. The accordion binding allows the book to be completely opened to create a “frieze” with all the prints.
These are accompanied by a text (to be deciphered). Operate from right to left, like reading a manga. From the first half of the 20th century. Anonymous book. An uncommon work in the West, they are the vestige of a period when, in the Land of the Rising Sun, its collections of “sex education” were offered to young married people; some tourists also acquired them. Many of these books were destroyed during Mao's China, through censorship. Dimensions: Closed book: 16 x 24 cm Thickness: 4.5 cm approx. Fresh interior. A few discreet accidents in the folds of the accordion binding, but nothing serious (see photos). The work holds up very well.
