After Titian (Tiziano Vecellio, 1488/90–1576)
"The Three Ages of Man" — left panel
Oil on canvas
19th-century copy after the left portion of Titian's famous composition (c. 1512–1514, National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh), depicting the couple of musician lovers in an Arcadian landscape. A very fine copy, rendering with remarkable skill the golden light, the softness of the flesh tones, and the poetic atmosphere characteristic of the Venetian school.
Several early copies and variations of this subject are recorded in public collections, notably at the Galleria Doria Pamphilj (Rome) and the Warrington Museum & Art Gallery (UK).
Our work clearly belongs to a well-established tradition of copies and reworkings after Titian, found in museums (Borghese, Warrington, etc.) as well as in private collections and on the art market.
Very good overall condition. Original canvas, without structural restoration. Old varnish slightly yellowed, consistent with age.
Frame
Later gilt frame, late 19th/early 20th century.
