Large oil on canvas very well done representing the Portrait of a mathematician, professor, leaning on his elbows and holding a ruler. This painting has a very beautiful frame, with a large gilded and worked frame. The mat is in green velvet enhanced with thin gold bands around the painting. Baroque style, 17th century. This painting was made from a painting by the famous Dutch painter Ferdinand Bol entitled Portrait of a mathematician tracing a geometric figure.

Ferdinand Bol (1616 - 1680) was a Dutch (United Provinces) painter, engraver and draftsman of the Golden Age, 17th century, author of portraits and paintings on biblical subjects. He was one of Rembrandt's best students. The works of Ferdinand Bol belong to the baroque style. He is part of what we call the “old Dutch masters”. In France, the Louvre Museum has several of his paintings, including a portrait of a mathematician.
