"Rare English Tea Box ''tea Caddy'' In Mahogany - Mid-19th Century"
Old box specially designed for tea, a precious commodity at the start of the Victorian era. This mahogany box, locked, preserved the leaves and was exhibited in the Salon of English Aristocrats. This copy has two compartments on the sides to differentiate green tea from black tea. In the center, a sugar container is decorated with elegant ornamentation. This sarcophagus-shaped box is highlighted by a small molding in the lower part and rests on four small ''cake'' feet. The lid with its frame profiled in alignment, has a slightly softened bec de corbin molding around its perimeter. The top is made up of four pyramidal parts topped by a rectangle with small moldings. On the sides of this trunk, two turned buttons allow it to be transported. Closure is by an original double hook lock with its original key and a recessed brass diamond entrance. The interior is composed on each side of two mahogany lockers which are raised by small shutters on brass hinges.
