"Very Large Pair Of Cloisonné Vases, Japan, 19th C."
Rare and very large pair (0.92m high) of cloisonné vases, Japan, 19th century. The "shippô-yaki" technique was introduced to Japan, via China, around the 17th century. It was jealously kept secret and its use was limited to decorative accessories, until it fell into oblivion, before being rediscovered in the mid-19th century. thanks to the reopening of Japan in the Meiji era (1868-1912) and the end of the copper prohibition on the archipelago. Good condition, apart from wear on the foot and deformation on the collar of one of them. Two small interior containers are housed inside the neck, made of copper. Very beautiful decorative appearance.
