Buddha In Lacquered Wood, Shan States, Burma, Partly 18th C.

Buddha seated in the position of Bhumisparsa mùdra, or gesture of the earth taken as witness in the fight that Buddha had against Mara Shan States, north-eastern Burma, 18th c. Strongly restored because probably in poor condition, the gaps have been filled with an amalgam of dry lacquer, the crown has been redone, but not the terminal flame. Many traces and presence of the original lacquer on the chest, arms and especially at the back. Good general appearance.
