"Large Bronze From Barbedienne, Crouching Aphrodite, 19th C."
Large bronze (height: 0.63m), with medal patina, representing Aphrodite, goddess of Love, crouching. An exaltation of the taste for movement and twisting, this work is intended to be a revival of the theme of naked Venus, or Aphrodite, known since Antiquity. The subject is part of the Hellenistic period where people like to voluptuously represent the female body in different attitudes. This model, based on the antique, was the subject of numerous replicas, the most famous of which remains that of Antoine COYSEVOX (Louvre). Signature on the terrace: “F.BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR”
