Bouquet On Red Background – Oil On Canvas – Signed – 1873

Still life representing a bouquet of flowers on a red background. The white flowers stand out against the background and give dynamism to the whole. A blue hydrangea placed on the support on the left provides a pretty colorful counterpoint.
The work is signed “C de Grandval” at the bottom right and dated 1873.
Condition: very good condition. Clean painting, a small old restoration not visible on the front. The painting is placed in an old black and gold frame, in the Napoleon III style, perhaps original. The frame is in very good condition.

The artist
It is difficult to attribute this painting with certainty. Several Grandvals painted in 19th century France, and one of them (Georges de Grandval) was known as a flower painter.
