Simon Sant-Jean was born in Lyon on October 14, 1808. His early gifts led him to be admitted to the School of Fine Arts in 1823. He obtained a gold medal in Paris in 1826, then specialized in the design of church ornaments, gold and silk embroidery, with the main themes of vines, grapes, ears of wheat and flowers. lily. In 1837, he married Caroline Jeanne Marie Belmont, poet, who encouraged him to pursue a career as an artist. Admired by the poet Lamartine, success smiled upon him: London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw welcomed him in turn. His very meticulous art wonderfully highlights botany which was very fashionable at the time. He died in Ecully on July 3, 1860.
His fame became international. He left more than 200 paintings, the majority abroad, 5 to the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon, but also to the Louvre Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen and the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg .
His works have been the subject of numerous public sales.
