"Aquatic Landscape In The Taste Of Corot – Signed Guy Cambier, 20th Century."
Lake landscape, in the style of Corot: the silhouettes of the trees are delicately outlined against a tormented sky. The mist rises over the pond. All in a calm and meditative atmosphere. Signed lower right.Very good condition, no visible restorations. Early 20th century frame, good condition.
As a self-taught painter, Cambier trained by observing the masters he admired, Corot and Watteau. It was at the age of nineteen that he gave his first exhibition at L'Art Belge, a presentation at the end of which his work was noticed. In 1950, the painter left his native Belgium to settle on the Côte d'Azur. It’s time for recognition. Cambier collects prizes: prize for Young Mediterranean Painting in Nice (1956), participation in the Menton Biennale (1958). He has regular exhibitions in Nice, Cannes, Paris, Lyon, Geneva and Zurich. Acquisitions were made by the French state and by several American collections in New York and San Francisco. He painted portraits of Gérard Philipe, Princess Grace of Monaco, Winston Churchill, Ingrid Bergman and his friend Stéphane Grappelli. Cambier's painting is luminous, expressive, with a certain pictorial materiality. Guy Cambier's works have been the subject of numerous public sales in Europe.
