Anecdotal with its steamships in the Joliette basin, a beautiful material especially in the sky and the clouds, color, light and life for this pretty oil on wooden panel by the Marseille artist, large friend of Jean-Baptiste Olive, Adolphe Louis Gaussen. The work in excellent condition is offered in a simple gilded wood frame which measures 38.5 cm by 46.5 cm, and 33 cm by 41 cm for the panel alone. It represents two characters walking in the gardens of the Palais du Pharo, at the entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, facing the famous Sainte Marie de la Joliette Lighthouse. It is signed lower right.Adolphe Gaussen studied painting under the tutelage of Jean-Baptiste Olive at the Marseille School of Fine Arts. He was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1928. He was curator of the Cantini museum in Marseille. In 1946, he entered the Marseille Academy.
