"Bartolomeo Gennari (bologna 1594-1661) - Madonna And Child "
Bartolomeo Gennari (Bologna 1594-1661) - Madonna and child Oil painting on canvas with old frame. (Black frame with lacquered finish) Expertise: Prof. Emilio Negro Dimensions: canvas 99x77cm, frame 120x98cm Bartolomeo Gennari was born in Cento in 1594, son of Benedetto and Giulia Bovi. At a very young age, he entered Guercino's studio, which already belonged to his father, and worked with his brother Ercole, Lorenzo Gennari, Benedetto Zallone, Matteo Loves and Paolo Antonio Barbieri. During his career he made many copies from the master's originals. He most likely participated in the work of the Casa Pannini. In 1630, he took the place of Lorenzo Gennari at the head of the workshop and always remained faithful to the style of the master. In 1632 he traveled to Modena with Guercino and Matteo Loves to paint the portraits of Duke Francesco I d'Este and Maria Farnese. From the 1630s he began a flourishing production of his own works, including the Sposalizio della Vergine (1644, Modena, Galleria Estense), which testifies to his interest in the production of Guido Reni. After settling in Bologna in 1644 with the other members of his family, he died in 1661.
