Jos De Maegd, Belgian painter, won the Prix de Rome. Two years later, he received a scholarship to travel the Belgian Congo for a year. This stay will have a major influence on his painting. It will evolve towards abstraction. He participated in the prestigious group exhibition La Jeune Peinture Belge in 1951 in Brussels at the Palais des Beaux-Arts.
In addition to being an artist, De Maegd was a committed teacher. For decades he taught at the art school in Sint-Luc.
