"Pair Of Bronze Candlesticks Hallmark R Crowned 18th"
Pair of bronze candlesticks from the Louis XIV period, France, Early 18th century, Circa 1710-1720, with a baluster on an octagonal base. Both are hallmarked with the crowned R. Old restoration at the base of one of the candlesticks (see photos) This hallmark was in use in the first third of the 18th century, guaranteeing the good quality of copper alloys. Tradition has it that it predates the crowned C mark but not from the 17th century as we can sometimes read.
