Reliquary Paperolles Jean The Baptist - 18th Century
Charming paperolles reliquary and its gilded wooden frame. The central medallion, in polychrome wax, represents the head of Saint John the Baptist presented on a dish.
Herod has just had him executed at the request of Salomé, a young dancer who captivated him.
The beheading of Saint John is recounted, in particular, by Saint Mark, of whom we find a relic offered in this same reliquary.
Our medallion is surrounded by the Holy relics of Mark, as already mentioned, but also of Valentin, Colman and Herionymi (hermit of Saint Jerome). Dimensions with frame: 22 x 19 cm.
Very good condition.
