Adam STYKA (1890-1959) Animated Orientalist Landscape Orientalist Painting signed *Adam STYKA (1890-1959) oil painting on strong cardboard from the Art Deco period around 1925 depicting a young boy watering his donkey in a palm grove such as El Kantara in Algeria. Beautiful shimmering composition which results in volumes solidly structured by light and pretty contrasting tones, it is presented in its original carved wooden frame with oriental spandrel patterns. Good general condition, dimensions: 50 cm X 40.5 cm / view: 35 cm X 26.5 cm. *Adam Styka, famous orientalist painter, is the son of the painter Jan Styka who gave him his first lessons in drawing and painting and who influenced his style. Adam Styka continued his studies at the famous Jesuit college in Chyrow. He studied in Paris at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1908 to 1912 under the direction of Fernand Cormon. In addition, it is suitable for military training in Fontainebleau. The outbreak of the First World War surprised him in Paris. He enlisted in the French Army in the artillery and distinguished himself in combat while being wounded. In addition to French citizenship, he received the National Order of Merit. Adam Styka has made several trips to North Africa where he is interested in orientalism. It is a period fertile in subjects addressing the landscapes of these regions and portraits of Arabs, Berbers and orientalist genre scenes. Her palette becomes dazzling under the North African sun. He is nicknamed “the Painter of the Sun”. Subsequently, Styka stayed in Morocco and Egypt. He left France in the 1950s to settle in Pennsylvania. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Beaux-Arts and at the Salon des Orientalistes. At the end of his life, he became interested in religious themes as did his father. Many of his paintings can be found in churches in Europe and North America. He is buried in the Pauline Fathers cemetery in Doylestown, United States.
