19th century plaster study “Woman bitten by a snake” by Auguste Clésinger, model published by Ferdinand Barbedienne, Paris
The naked woman lying on an oval base covered with flowers, signed AJ Clesinger and F.Barbedienne/ Fondeur.
This model was published by the Barbedienne foundry since 1857. See illustration of the 21 cm high patinated bronze in Florence Rionnet “The Barbedienne Bronzes, The work of a dynasty of founders (1834-1954)”, Fig 189 ( cat.543). It is noted that a plaster of the small model is kept in Paris, at the Musée d'Orsay, inv. RF 1980.
The large white marble sculpture by Clesinger is also in the Musee d'Orsay, Paris.
