19th Century Ormolu-mounted Cloisonne-enamel Jardiniere
The central bowl features a vibrant polychrome design against a turquoise-blue background. The floral design depicts peonies, dense foliage, and butterflies in shades of pink, yellow, white, and red. The upper rim features a wide openwork frieze of volutes and stylized foliage motifs in gilded bronze. Two spectacular geometric side handles are flanked by stylized chimera or dragon heads. The circular base, made of gilded bronze with a patina, is supported by four arched feet adorned with monumental elephant heads, whose trunks serve as the points of contact with the ground.
