Japan, End Of The 19th Century, Golden Pewter Cup With Representation Of Kwan Yin.
Japan, late 19th century, superb and unusual gilded pewter cup with relief decoration depicting Kwan Yin, Buddhist goddess of mercy, seated in a position of royal relaxation. Her hairstyle is very elaborate. She wears necklaces and a ceremonial dress. She is surrounded by waves in the background and her head is topped by a phoenix. Good condition except for slight wear, particularly concerning the gilding.
Length 18.5 cm. Width 14 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a brand known to everyone.
