Mahogany Knitter

Knitter in mahogany and mahogany veneer resting on four feet skates. It consists of two openwork uprights joined by a top decorated with a bronze gallery forming a spacer. The uprights each end with three inverted consoles receiving the upper part. The latter is formed by a plateau with a high edge and a jump. One of the sides is tilting. Louis XVI period Usual restorations H. 71 x W. 79 x D. 6 cm Often found in a feminine interior, this practical little piece of furniture allows you to put down your work easily without a fall threatening to damage the work started. In mahogany, this small piece of furniture is a telling example of Anglomania. This form of knitter is linked to the production of several great cabinetmakers: Riesener, Carlin (sale of November 13, 2018, lot 339 Christie's), or even RVLC. Knitting tables quite similar to ours can be seen at the Nissim de Camondo museum (Riesener stamp), at the Carnavalet museum (RVLC stamp).
