In the 18th and 19th centuries, European imperial manufactories, particularly that of Vienna, produced pieces of form adapted to the customs of the elites of the Ottoman Empire. The sahan (or covered presentation dish), traditionally made in tinned copper or tombak, was thus reinterpreted in fine porcelain painted with floral motifs and rich gilding. These refined pieces destined for the Turkish market blended the expertise of European porcelain with the traditional forms of Oriental tableware.

This covered sahan in Vienna porcelain for the Ottoman market testifies to the cultural and commercial exchanges between Central Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, uniting the elegance of Viennese floral decoration with the typology of Oriental prestige objects.
