Set Of 12 Black Opaline Glass Dishes, Scallop Shell Form, Murano, Italy, Circa 1950–1970
Set of six dishes in black opaline glass, molded in the form of scallop shells.
Italy, Murano. 20th century (circa 1950–1970).
L 9 cm
Very good overall condition.
Highly fashionable in the mid-20th century for tableware and display decoration, these small molded shell-shaped dishes derive their elegance from the contrast between the fluted relief of the shell and the intense depth of the opaque black glass. Produced by the master glassmakers of Murano as well as by major French molded-glass manufacturers, they brought a graphic and sophisticated touch to reception tables.
This set of six black glass dishes in shell form, inscribed within the fine tradition of decorative glassware from the 1950s–1970s, testifies to the care devoted to detail objects, uniting the originality of its shape with the elegance of its hue
