Medieval bas-relief, Saint Eloi, Lead, 14th-15th century
This bas-relief depicts a bishop on a horse, wearing a mitre. He holds in his left hand a crozier topped by a cross, and raises his right hand in benediction. The presence of a hammer and the fact that he is sat on a horse let think that he is Saint Eloi, who is the patron saint of goldsmiths, blackmiths and veterinarians. The bridle of the horse is holden by a soldier with cuirass who have a spear in his right hand, and a dog takes place under the horse in a vegetation setting.
Very good condition, grey patina.
