Hippolyte Gide, XIXth Century, Dish Painted With A Hunting Scene With Hounds, Or Packs, Venery
Artist: Hippolyte Jean Adam Gide (1852-1921)
Very beautiful large impressionist plate painted in full of two hounds or pack dogs.
Work of the artist Hippolyte GIDE (St-Germain en Laye 1852 - Paris 1921); notably known and reputed for the quality of his watercolours of hunting scenes, pack dogs or Vénerie.
* Signed H Gide 88 * ( for 1888).
Diameter : 40,5 cm / Height : 5,3 cm / Weight : 2.060 g
This dish (another large one is on sale simultaneously in our gallery) is distinguished, like the second one proposed in another ad, by the very particular characteristic of the earthenware support which seems to have been very little used by the artist, which contributes to make these works much more singular than his usual watercolours.
The two dogs are represented here in action, running in an undergrowth, a pond of water in the foreground, a breakthrough of sky brings a beautiful light on this scene of hunting where we can see flowers and beautiful tortuous trees.
It should be noted that this dish is much more beautiful in reality because the photos do not reproduce well the colours and contrasts, nor the satin side of the surface texture which lets appear in backlight the work with the brush of the painter.
This dish was painted on a large diameter "blanc" which has this particular shape of large curved cup very used by the impressionist painters on earthenware of Montigny-sur-Loing or Marlotte).
If you have any questions, do not hesitate, we are at your disposal.
