Ensi Tekké Hatchlou Carpet Turkmenistan 160 X 111 Cm
Ensi tekké wool kurk, circa 1900. Regular wear. Breakpoints and borders restored in our workshop. Very fine work. Very good state of conservation considering the age (at least 120 years). Rare.
It is not a rug including a mihrab (prayer rug) as one might interpret it. The ensi tekké were used as doors at the entrance of the "tam oy" (Turkmen tents). Called hatchlou or hadtchlu (in Armenian), the ensi tekké consists of four niches with candlestick patterns like this one. It has become very rare to find ensi tekké. This piece is in shades of brown.
