Object description :

"Sainte Marie-madeleine - Altarpiece Element - Circa 1530"
An elegant and moving piece. Kneeling, imploring gaze raised to the sky, she brings her right hand to her chest in pain.
Richly dressed, her long dress is belted by a cord and covered by a coat returning to her left knee. T

his wooden statue, probably made of linden which lends itself well to this exercise, was once polychromed in red and decorated in black and gold (perfectly visible on the right forearm of the Holy Woman).
Time has weathered it more pleasantly than it has degraded it.
This is an old work that can be dated to the years 1520/1530.

It was originally an element of an altarpiece representing the founding scene, which is the Crucifixion.

Mary Magdalene is recognized as the “apostle of the apostles” by several Church Fathers and was one of the rare disciples present at the foot of the Cross.
