"Saint Cloud Earthenware Dish, Late Seventeenth Century."
This very large hollow circular dish is decorated in the center with floral foliage, painted blue on a white background, imitating the decorations of Chinese porcelain, brought back to Europe by the Compagnie des Indes. On the wing four flower reserves are arranged on a trellis background. A wide blue net borders the end of the wing and a frieze of geometric patterns surrounds the bottom of the dish. A similar model is kept in the museum of Sèvres. In excellent general condition, it nevertheless has one or two enamel breaks on the edge. Period late seventeenth century. Size 44cm
