Mask - Baoulé/ Ivory Coast
Among the productions of the various African ethnic groups, Baoulé artefacts are particularly accessible to Western tastes due to the finesse of execution of their masks and statues. Note the care given to the hairstyle sculpted and falling on the sides and the face of the mask. This hairstyle is traversed by sumptuous grid patterns. The small sculpted beard as well as the jagged line running along the forehead of the mask underlines the meticulousness shown by the Baoulé craftsmen.
