Object description :

"Dan Mask - Ivory Coast, Liberia"
Masks are the most important art form of the Dan people of the Ivory Coast and Liberia. The Dan people call these masks Gle or Ge, terms that refer to both the physical mask and the individual spirits that the mask is supposed to embody during masquerade performances. Gle can be divided into two categories: that of Dean Gle, who is a gentle and peaceful gle without gender, but whose qualities are considered feminine, and that of Bu Gle, which is the war Gle that takes its name from the sound of a shot, the qualities of which are considered masculine.
