Small Victorian reliquary with hair in a glass and brass case dated 1850+/-.
When identifying Victorian jewelry, especially mourning pieces, it is always important to remember that this was a very sentimental era and most jewelry is full of symbolism that goes beyond a simple motif.

Only about half of the hair memorabilia dating back to the Victorian era was made to commemorate a loved one, in fact, at times, they were used to carry out an engagement or other important event.
The floral motifs incorporated into this piece hint at the artefact's commemorative use, these mourning flowers were lily of the valley and, for obvious reasons, the "forget-me-nots" flowers.
