CESAR (1921-1998); César Baldaccini: "Compression portrait"; Engraving numbered 8/200, signed manuscript lower right; Dimensions: 76 x 57 cm & 57 x 50 cm at the bowl. Dedication partially erased. Mint condition... César Baldaccini (1921-1998) originally from Tuscany in Italy became a sculptor for lack of money by working scrap metal and scrap. In 1960, he participated in the founding of the New Realists group with: Yves Klein, Arman, Jacques Villeglé and Raymond Hains. During the "César Anthologie par Jean Nouvel" exhibition, Ilana Shamoon, curator Fondation Cartier, summarizes César's work in these words: "There are human footprints, footprints of different parts of the human body. There are thumbs, Caesar's famous thumbs, there are breasts, there are fists. There are lots of different body parts , with a wide variety of materials. There is bronze, plastic, resin." César is also known for the "César" of cinema, designed in 1975, a compression which rewards the winners of the cinematographic year in France during the Nuit des César. He is recognized worldwide as an iconic figure of Contemporary Art and exhibited in the greatest museums or retrospectives illustrating or celebrating the 20th century.
