Paul Emile Lecomte (1877– 1950). Painter of watercolors and oil paintings, etcher, and engraver. He was the pupil of Fernand Cormon and of his uncle Paul Lecomte. He became Offical Painter of the French Navy in 1921. He painted at the beginning of his career in the same style as his famous uncle, Paul Lecomte (1842-1920) . His first works are often attributed falsely to him as their signature can be confounded. But he soon developped his own style, of which this work is a very good example.
