Carpet Chirvan, Caucasus, Azerbaidjan, 100 X 157 Cm, Hand Knotted Wool Before 1920

Chirvan carpet from the Caucasus, village of Chirvan in the south of Azerbaijan measuring 100 cm wide by 157 cm long.
The Chirvan velvet is always made of wool and of small elongated format like our model, presenting beautiful colors, a deep red, two types of blue, black, brown and cream.
Its decoration of large stylized flowers and its cypress in the center is specific to these carpets, but we find in the decorations of the Chirvan the same variety as in the other Caucasian pieces.
It should be borne in mind that these regions underwent numerous invasions, which explains the disparate nature of the motifs used in the ornamentation of these pieces, which still retain an authentic and tribal expression.

This rug of great beauty and delicacy of design and color is a real gem of Caucasian art. early 20th century.
The density of this piece is around 360,000 knots per M2.
